Achievements and Awards

16 years as MP for Thurrock from 9 April 1992 - 2008

Andrew's years as a Thurrock MP have been "celebrated" on television.. The award-winning MP, who was elected on 9 April 1992, took part in a televised question and answer session at Palmer's College in Grays. The session was not only recorded by a British crew, but also a European one, who were making a documentary aboutthe life and work of a British MP. On 6 May Andrew was elected once again to represent Thurrock.

John Death, Head of Government & Politics at the Palmers College, commented that the students greatly enjoyed the opportunity of televised debate. They were happy to be included in the programmes which showed Andrew at work both at Westminster, and in the constituency.

In his first ten years Andrew asked more than 3,000 Parliamentary questions and spoke in the House of Commons on 405 occasions. He also handled nearly 8,000 problems from individual constituents.
